Taxonomy
Neuropteris was named by Brongniart (1828) [spelling emended by Sternberg 1825]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Neuropteris heterophylla.

It was assigned to Pteridospermophyta by Lakhanpal et al. (1976); and to Medullosaceae by Jennings (1980).
