Taxonomy
Urosalpinx phagon was named by Gardner (1947). Its type specimen is USNM 371856, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 2646 - Oak Grove [Oak Grove Sand], which is in a Burdigalian marine sandstone in the Oak Grove Formation of Florida.
It was recombined as Poirieria (Panamurex) phagon by Vokes (1970).
