Zelandites was named by Marshall (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-l K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 2,730,971].

It was reranked as Anagaudryceras (Zelandites) by Hoffmann (2010).

It was assigned to Tetragonitidae by Kennedy (1994); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Gaudryceratinae by Matsumoto (1959), Henderson (1970), Szives (2007); to Anagaudryceras by Hoffmann (2010); and to Gaudryceratidae by Kennedy and Klinger (1979), Wright and Kennedy (1984), Morozumi (1985), Macellari (1986), Macellari (1988), Ward and Kennedy (1993), Wright et al. (1996), Kennedy and Morris (2018).
