Dromornis was named by Owen (1872). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Dromornithidae by Lambrecht (1933), Wetmore (1960), Houde (1988), Murray and Megirian (1998), Worthy et al. (2016), Worthy and Nguyen (2020).
