Taxonomy

Shihtienfenia was named by Young and Yeh (1963). It is not extant. Its type is Shihtienfenia permica.

It was assigned to Pareiasauria by Lee (1997); and to Pareiasauridae by Young and Yeh (1963), Kuhn (1966), Carroll (1988), Benton (2016).

Species

S. permica (syn. Huanghesaurus liulinensis, Shansisaurus xuecunensis) (type species)

Synonyms

Shansisaurus was named by Cheng (1980).

It was synonymized subjectively with Shihtienfenia by Benton (2016).

It was assigned to Pareiasauridae by Cheng (1980), Gao (1989); and to Pareiasauria by Lee (1997).
Huanghesaurus was named by Gao (1983). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Shansisaurus by Lee (1997), Li and Liu (2013); it was synonymized subjectively with Shihtienfenia by Benton (2016).

It was assigned to Pareiasauridae by Gao (1983).
