Zenaida was named by Bonaparte (1838). It is extant.

It was corrected as Zenaidura by Hay (1930), Wetmore (1956); it was misspelled as Zenaidura by Wetmore (1931), Mead et al. (1984), Morgan (1994), Clements et al. (2017).

It was assigned to Columbinae by Wetmore (1956); and to Columbidae by Hay (1930), Wetmore (1931), Mead et al. (1984), Morgan (1994), Clements et al. (2017).
