Synek was named by Barrande (1881) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren O m Sepkoski's reference number: 1046].

It was synonymized subjectively with Palaeoneilo by Cox et al. (1969).

It was assigned to Mytiloida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Praenuculidae by Polechová (2022).
