Pyrula anomala was named by Reeve (1847). It is extant.

It was recombined as Cantharus anomalus by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Hanetia anomala by Woodring (1964); it was recombined as Solenosteira (Solenosteira) anomala by Landau and Marques da Silva (2010); it was recombined as Solenosteira anomala by Dall (1890), Hanna (1926), Vermeij and Lozouet (2012).
