Arctostrea was named by Pervinquiere (1910) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-l K Maes-l]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Lophinae by Vokes (1980); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Arctostreinae by Bouchet et al. (2010).
