Athyris quadrirotundus was named by Lee and Su (1980) [Listed as Actinoconchus quadrirotunda in plate caption]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Chaganhada, Jalaid Qi, which is in a Capitanian marine horizon in the Liutiagou Formation of China.
It was recombined as Composita quadrirotunda by Clapham (2015).
