It was assigned to Pycnodontinae by Ward (1992); to Pycnodonteinae by Vokes (1980), Woodring (1982), Moore (1987), Freneix et al. (1988), Perrilliat (1994); to Gryphaeidae by Lamprell and Healy (1998), Todd (2001); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Hyotissini by Bouchet et al. (2010).
