Stenotheca pauper was named by Billings (1872). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Stenotheca rugosa pauper by Shaler and Foerste (1888); it was recombined as Bemella pauper by Brock and Cooper (1993); it was recombined as Ilsanella paupera by Parkhaev (2001).
