Indopecten was named by Douglas (1929) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Indopecten clignetti.

It was assigned to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pectinidae by Kiessling (2004), Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
