Mya abrupta was named by Conrad (1849). It is extant.

It was recombined as Panope (Panope) abrupta by Moore (1963); it was recombined as Panope abrupta by Powell and Stevens (2000); it was recombined as Panopea abrupta by Coan et al. (2000) and Hendy (2020).
