Taxonomy
Joumocetus shimizui was named by Kimura and Hasegawa (2010). Its type specimen is GMNH-PV-2401, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kabura River, which is in a Tortonian deep-water horizon in the Haraichi Formation of Japan.
