Selenimyalina was named by Newell (1942) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc-u P Leon]. It is the type genus of Selenimyalininae.

It was reranked as Myalina (Selenimyalina) by Newell (1942).

It was assigned to Myalina by Newell (1942); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); to Selenimyalininae by Bouchet et al. (2010); and to Myalinidae by Vokes (1980) and Hoşgör (2021).
