Squamuliferipecten was named by Waterhouse (1986) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step-l P Sakm-u Sepkoski's reference number: 745].

It was synonymized subjectively with Heteropecten by Newell and Boyd (1995).

It was assigned to Deltopectinidae by Begg and Ballard (1991); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Squamuliferipectininae by Bouchet et al. (2010).
