Medusaceratops was named by Ryan et al. (2010). Its type is Medusaceratops lokii.
It was assigned to Chasmosaurinae by Ryan et al. (2010), Maidment and Barrett (2011); and to Albertaceratopsini by Loewen et al. (2024).
