Taxonomy
Stenotosaurus gracilis was named by Kamphausen (1983) [SMK is a private collection held by Dr F. Martin & J. Martin, Kronach, Bavaria]. Its type specimen is SMK unnumbered, a partial skull (Impression of a partial skull, in two pieces), and it is an impression. Its type locality is Kronach, which is in an Aegean/Bithynian marine sandstone in the Röttone Formation of Germany.
It was synonymized subjectively with Stenotosaurus semiclausus by Schoch and Milner (2000).
