Taxonomy
Phiomys lavocati was named by Wood (1968). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry E (Jebel Qatrani Formation), which is in a Rupelian fluvial sandstone/mudstone in the Jebel Qatrani Formation of Egypt.
It was recombined as Talahphiomys lavocati by Jaeger et al. (2010), Marivaux et al. (2017).
