Carydium was named by Beushausen (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg-u D Fras]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Modiomorphoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Carydiidae by Vokes (1980), Bailey (1986) and Bouchet et al. (2010).
