Pelagornis stirtoni
Taxonomy
Pseudodontornis stirtoni was named by Howard and Warter (1969). Its type specimen is CM AV20569, a partial skull (partial skull and jows), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Motunau Beach, which is in a Piacenzian marine siltstone in the Greta Formation of New Zealand.
It was recombined as Neodontornis stirtoni by Harrison and Walker (1976); it was recombined as Pelagornis stirtoni by Mayr and Rubilar-Rogers (2010) and Cenizo et al. (2015).
