Taxonomy
Pisania fortis was named by Carpenter (1866). It is extant.

It was recombined as Cantharus fortis by Carson (1925) and Waterfall (1929); it was recombined as Calicantharus fortis by Amano and Vermeij (2003) and Hendy (2021).

Synonyms
  • Pisania fortis angulata was named by Arnold (1907). Its type specimen is USNM 164959, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

    It was recombined as Cantharus angulata by Carson (1925); it was recombined as Cantharus fortis angulata by Soper and Grant (1932); it was recombined as Calicantharus angulatus by Hall (2002); it was synonymized subjectively with Calicantharus fortis by Hendy (2020).
