Phalarodon major was named by Maisch and Matzke (2000) [Species originally named by von Huene, 1916 and recombined by Maisch and Matzke in a an article not yet published when current reference was written, so original name not known.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Aach, near Freudenstadt, which is in an Anisian marine horizon in Germany.
