Astartellopsis was named by Beurlen (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: P u , Tr l]. Its type is Astartellopsis prosoclina.

It was assigned to Astartinae by Vokes (1980); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Terrainae by Simões et al. (2015).
