Ophiomusium rugosum was named by Valette (1914). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ophiuroidea, Campanian, Level J, Sens, Yonne, France, which is in a Campanian offshore ramp wackestone in the Craie de Sens Formation of France.
