Ptychomphalus intermedius was named by de Koninck (1883). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Spiroscala intermedia by Gromczakiewicz (1967), Gromczakiewicz-Lomnicka (1972).

A. Gromczakiewicz-Lomnicka 1972"Small trochiform gastropod with flatly rounded base. Selenizone rather wide, slightly concave, bordered above and below by distinct carinae; selenizone ornamented by very shallow lunulae; ornamentation consists of strong transverse lirae slightly convex forwards. Sides of the shell slightly concave; in some specimens, profile of the last whorl strongly concave. Sutures shallow. Aperture small; inner lip somewhat thickened. Umbilicus minute."
