Taxonomy
Ambites ferruginus was named by Tozer (1994). Its type specimen is GSC 28134 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is GSC 51665, Otto Fiord, Svartefjeld Peninsula, Ellesmere Island, which is in a Dienerian deep-water siliciclastic in the Blind Fiord Formation of Canada.
