Taxonomy
Fimbria was named by Mühlfeldt (1811) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett R Sepkoski's reference number: 93]. It is extant. Its type is Venus fimbriata.
It was assigned to Fimbriidae by Cox et al. (1969), Adegoke (1977), Vokes (1980), Squires (1987), Squires and Demetrion (1992), Lamprell and Whitehead (1992) and Squires (1999); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); to Lucinidae by Glover and Taylor (2007); and to Fimbriinae by Hickman (2015).

ribs crossed by closely spaced, rounded commarginal lamellae. Lunule short, lanceolate. Ligament set in shallow groove. Hinge massive, with 2 cardinal teeth in each valve, a single, large anterior lateral tooth close to cardinals, with smaller posterior lateral located above posterior adductor scar. Anterior adductor muscle scar short, broad, reniform in outline, slightly deviating from the pallial line. Pallial line entire. Interior shell margin strongly denticulate. |
