Taxonomy
Taphrosphys nodosus was named by Cope (1870). Its type specimen is AMNH 1480, a partial shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Hornerstown area (Hornerstown Fm.) (PROXY), which is in a Maastrichtian marginal marine marl in the Hornerstown Formation of New Jersey.
