Monitilora was named by Iredale (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Myrteinae by Vokes (1980); to Lucinidae by Lamprell and Whitehead (1992); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
