Aulacoparia (Aulacoparia) sculpta was named by Dean (1989). Its type specimen is GSC 62350, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is GSC locality 92276, Outram Fm., Biozone G, Alberta, Canada - Dean 1989, which is in a Tremadoc transition zone/lower shoreface siltstone in the Outram Formation of Canada.
