Goniotelus brighti was named by Hintze (1953) [Paratypes: 26474-5, 26477-9 (AMNH).]. Its type specimen is 26476 (AMNH), a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Goniotelina brighti by Whittington (1953); it was recombined as Acidiphorus brighti by Brett and Westrop (1996).
