Taxonomy
Triarthrus thor was named by Fortey (1974). Its type specimen is SMA 84109, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Porterfieldia thor by Ludvigsen and Tuffnell (1983).
