Bellerophon (Pharkidonotus) westi was named by Yochelson (1960) [Bellerophon (Pharkidonotus) westi Yochelson 1960]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is PU3, Apache Canyon, Sierra Diablo, which is in a Kungurian shallow subtidal limestone in the Bone Spring Formation of Texas.
It was recombined as Pharkidonotus westi by Kues and Batten (2001) and Wagner (2023).
