Taxonomy
Praeconia was named by Stoliczka (1871) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett J Tith Sepkoski's reference number: 93]. It is not extant. Its type is Astarte terminalis.

It was assigned to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Astartidae by Hayami (1975), Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
