Squamularia dieneri was named by Gemmellaro (1899).

It was recombined as Spirifer (Reticularia) dieneri by Schellwien (1900); it was recombined as Reticularia (Squamularia) dieneri by Diener (1903); it was recombined as Reticularia dieneri by Keidel (1906).
