Salaputium was named by Iredale (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Crassatellinae by Vokes (1980); to Crassatellidae by Wozny (1977) and Lamprell and Healy (1998); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
