Taxonomy
Sanguinolaria was named by Lamarck (1799) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Tellina (Sanguinolaria) by Gabb (1864).

It was assigned to Tellina by Gabb (1864); to Psammobiidae by Olsson (1931); to Gariidae by Durham (1944); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sanguinolariinae by Woodring (1982), Bouchet et al. (2010).
