Bothrocorbula was named by Gabb (1873) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Corbula (Bothrocorbula) by Woodring (1925).

It was assigned to Corbula by Woodring (1925); to Corbulinae by Vokes (1980); to Caryocorbulinae by Woodring (1982) and Perrilliat (1992); to Myoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Corbulidae by Anderson and Roopnarine (2003).
