Amphitriscoelus was named by Harris and Hodson (1922) [Sepkoski's age data: K Barr K Albi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 972]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Coalcomaninae by Alencaster and Pantoja-Alor (1996); to Hippuritoida by Sepkoski (2002); to Caprinidae by Kiessling (2004); and to Caprinuloideidae by Skelton (2013).
