Chaperia was named by Munier-Chalmas (1882) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-l K Ceno-u Sepkoski's reference number: 968,972. Nomen nudum in 1873 (no description and no included species).]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Hippuritoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Caprotinidae by Palmer (1928) and Skelton (2013).
