Diceras was named by Lamarck (1805) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo-m J Kimm-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Hippuritoida by Sepkoski (2002); to Diceratinae by Kiessling (2003); and to Diceratidae by Steuber (2002), Bouchet et al. (2010) and Skelton (2013).
