Gyropleura was named by Douvillé (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: K Vala K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 545,972]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Hippuritoida by Sepkoski (2002); to Gyropleuridae by Bouchet et al. (2010); and to Monopleuridae by Vokes (1980) and Skelton (2013).
