Palus was named by Palmer (1928) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-l K Ceno-u Sepkoski's reference number: 972]. Its type is Palus corrugatus.

It was assigned to Hippuritacea by Cox et al. (1969); and to Hippuritoida by Sepkoski (2002).
