Polyconites was named by Roulland (1830) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-l K Ceno-u Sepkoski's reference number: 968]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Caprotinidae by Palmer (1928); to Hippuritoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Polyconitidae by Steuber (2002), Bouchet et al. (2010), Skelton (2013).
