Rhaetomegalodon was named by Végh-Neubrandt (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Rhae Sepkoski's reference number: 674]. It is not extant. Its type is Rhaetomegalodon bajotensis.
It was assigned to Hippuritoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Megalodontidae by Kiessling (2003), Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
