Alula was named by Girty (1912) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-u P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 157]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Alulinae by Morris et al. (1991), Bouchet et al. (2010).
