Phaethusavis pelagicus

Taxonomy
Phaethusavis pelagicus was named by Bourdon et al. (2008). Its type specimen is OCP.KH 1084, a limb element (proximal humerus), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sidi Daoui, which is in a Ypresian terrestrial phosphorite in Morocco. It is the type species of Phaethusavis.

E. Bourdon et al. 2008Resembles Phaethontidae and differs from Lithoptila in several features: extremitas proximalis wider, with prominent tuberculum dorsale; crista deltopectoralis more developed with sharper angulus cristae; impressio musculi pectoralis well defined and crescent-shaped; intumescentia humeri sharply defined; impressio coracobrachialis large and deep; linea musculi latissimi dorsi bipartite. Differs from Phaethon and Heliadornis in the following features: crista deltopectoralis evenly curved at the apex; sharp crest continuing crus dorsale fossae distally; intumescentia humeri narrower, with smoother edges; impressio coracobrachialis wider and shallower.
