Hesperisternia waltonia was named by Gardner (1944). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 3856 - Mossyhead [Shoal River Fm], which is in a Serravallian marine marl/sandstone in the Shoal River Formation of Florida. It is the type species of Hesperisternia.
